2011年8月22日凌晨，云南瑞麗江邊，一男子被執勤武警查出有疑似毒品后逃跑。年僅18歲的姚元軍奮力追趕，在距離江邊兩米處死死抓住了毒販，與之殊死搏斗。搏斗中，二人墜入江中，姚元軍直到最后一刻都沒松開抓住毒販的手，直至壯烈犧牲。
